Lesley Donohue, B.Sc., RMT
Lesley graduated from the University of Guelph in 1977 with a Bachelors of Science.
She proceeded to raise her family in Toronto and then decided to follow the path she always gravitated towards – helping others. She found that path lead toward massage therapy due to her unique ability to “listen” with both her hands and her heart. She graduated with Honours from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 1997.
She partially credits the decision of going back to school to study Massage Therapy to the first hand experience she had after her first child in 1980. She had developed headaches, neck and back pain after giving birth and her forward thinking family physician insisted that she try massage therapy before using traditional medications to manage her pain. The result was very positive.
After Lesley’s mother died from ovarian cancer she felt compelled to “give back” to the community that had been so kind to her mother during her battle with cancer. Twelve years ago she became a volunteer with Hospice of London giving massage to those in palliative care as well as to their caregivers. She continued this work when she returned to Toronto with Better Living Health and Community Services. Lesley has since completed a number of advanced courses in massage and cancer care, most recently the ‘Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz With Cancer’ with Tina Allen and the Liddlekidz Foundation.
Today, Lesley integrates the knowledge and experience she has gained over the past 18 years combining traditional Swedish massage theory and technique with manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), trigger point therapy, myofascial release and reflexology. To enhance the positive outcome of her treatments, Lesley often incorporates hydrotherapy and ultrasound, as well as kinesiology taping.
Lesley is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and is an active member of her professional association, the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario (RMTAO).
